Clean lines and uncluttered surfaces make a kitchen ready for work at a moments notice but can seem somewhat sterile and cold. Add a touch of personality by having the panels in several of your cabinet doors replaced with glass then hang fabric panels inside to compliment or contrast the rest of your color scheme. These panels can easily be changed to give the room a fresh new look for very little cost or effort.

If your budget/income is low, don't buy kitchen appliances in the latest design colors (example=red). Instead buy apliances in traditional colors and decorate with textiles, dishes, paint, etc., to keep in stride with the current decorator color schemes. It's much cheaper to re-decorate down the road when styles change.

One of the quickest, and most simple, ways to update your bathroom's style is by replacing your accessories. For around 75.00 you can replace the towel bars, robe hooks, paper holders, and towel rings.

Too much clutter in your kitchen? No space to build a pantry? To easily create a pantry, take a little used closet and install size 24 X 36 metro shelving. The shelving must be put together inside the closet, but once in it appears to be a built in unit. Large shelves at the bottom can be used for bulk or non-food storage while the added shelf space above can double your storage space!

Create a “wish list” scrapbook of ideas and designs you would like to incorporate into the room. This could include pictures cut out from magazine advertisements, brochures from your local home improvement store, fabric and wallpaper samples, and notes about ideas you’ve seen on TV. As time (and your budget) allow, start to fulfill your wishes until you’ve got your ultimate dream kitchen!

I keep a folder filled with blank sheets of paper, a pair of scissors and a glue stick in my magazine and catalog basket. When something catches my eye, I clip it out and add it to my design ideas notebook.

For families with children, make sure to plan a bathroom that's "kid friendly." Ask questions, such as, can my child reach the sink?; Is there a place for my child to place his/her toothbrush?; Is there a place to store any bath toys?; Is there a place for a potty chair?; Is there a safe mirror that my child can use? These are just some questions that need to be addressed to make a bathroom "kid friendly."
